Wondering what to cook for your baby when he/she is ready for a weaning diet? Here are some delicious recipes that you can consider when preparing meals for your young ones.

Weaning Recipes: Stage 1 – When your child is 4 months or older

Carrots provide a slightly sweet taste and are gentle on babies’ stomachs, which is why it is highly recommended that carrots be pureed for your child’s first solid meal. However do note that carrots can contribute to mild constipation and if that is the case, introduce pumpkin, broccoli or parsnips to your child’s diet for regular bowel movement.

During the first two weeks of weaning, start off by introducing a few spoonful of cooked vegetable puree and gradually increase the amount over the weeks to come. We recommend adding two teaspoons of Holle Organic baby weaning oil to your child’s meal each time as it supplements some specific nutrients that can only be found in breast milk.

Weaning Tip:

  • Babies usually enjoy their food when they are fed with a plastic spoon compared to metal spoons as the latter gives babies a cold feeling on their tongues.
  • When starting your baby on a solid food diet, it is recommended to feed them in small portions and as such parents usually freeze pureed meals or jars of baby food in small portions for better convenience. When required, just thaw the necessary amounts for each meal.
  • Due to hygiene purposes, baby food can only be frozen and thawed once. Never refreeze thawed baby food for more than one time.
